Alas, it is with both sadness and relief that the season has come to a close. What a year, Jimmie Johnson dominating the end of the Chase to gain his second consecutive Nextel Cup. Awesome that I was able to see two of his wins (California in Spetember, and Phoenix in November).
I’m sad if only because now I will have nothing to do on Sunday’s. 90 days of no NASCAR… As always, I am sure I will put a few upgrades in the site.
The relief is that I won’t have the pressure of getting the result’s and statistics up. While this is my passion (as I havebeen doing this site for over 15 years, and named my children after drivers), it does sometimes get overwhelming. I’ll just have to wait and see what next year brings.
And another year at PIR in the books. The trip went very well.
Flight out (and back) via U.S. Airways was comfortable and on time from Ontario to Phoenix. The rental via Enterprise was a very nice black Dodge Charger. More spacey than my Geo, and a comfortable ride. There was a little wheel chirp even around some of the slower corners, but it was a fine ride.
I visited the Heart Attack Grill, and the hostess, Crystal, was very enjoyable. The picture I took of her backside
has jumped to over 3000 views on flickr.com in under 3 days.
The race on Sunday was held under a bright and sunny sky. Parking was dusty, and quite a walk, but getting there early helps to make the day more enjoyable. With Carl Edwards on the pole, the race got under way and he was strong until his engine broke. Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr were strong also, but in the end, it was Jimmie Johnson
winning his 4th in a row (history tied). For sure, one of the best tracks for watching racing.
I do plan on going with few changes. The one main thing I’d like to change is someone to share the experience with. It is just not the same doing it alone.
So, today I am off to Phoenix for the race. With just two races to go, it looks like a tight battle this weekend and next. The track is one of the best for racing (in my own opinion). The one mile track is viewable from almost every seat. It seems to make the racing more intimate, and the passing of lapped traffic occurs sooner because many of the cars handle differently, and it being ‘only’ one mile. It still amazes me how they can get around so quickly.
Also, tonight I’ll be visiting the Heart Attack Grill. Kinda funny how it has become a main stop on my visits to the Phoenix area. They are in a new location, so check out the photo log for the newest pictures…
Jarrett is doing his homework, and goes to fill out his book reading log. He asks me, “Dad, what is your first name?” So, I tell him, and he starts writing. I ask him why he needed my name for his homework, and he shows me on the paper: Parent Initial: He was doing his homework thinking he had to write his parent’s initial in the box.
Ah, well… Things are finally shaping up since the last post (in September). I have been working on various things around the site, but put off the blog as I updated the all-time poles for NASCAR. Just something I wanted to finish. Now, as the racing season comes to an end, I will be working more on the layout… I do want to start posting here some more.
In other news, I have becoming more and more addicted to Yahoo’s Flickr Photo site. It has groups to join, and one I have found especially entertaining is the monthly scavenger hunt. The object is to find in your own set of pictures, 20 items from a list they have developed… If you don’t have the pictures in your archives, you go out and find pictures to match the objects. I have found 8 so far this month.
