Finally a few notes and pictures from UAW\Daimler Chrysler 400 in Las Vegas, March 7, 2004. I just didn't have time to post these earlier, so here they are now.
This year, I again went went my wife, DeShawn. We arrived downtown at about 10:00am, and searched for a room. We had only received the tickets, so last minute preparations were what we had to do the entire trip. It was too early to get a room, so we went for lunch at Denny's. We then went back to a hotel that was releasing rooms at 2:00, so we waited in line for about 2 hours to make sure we would get one. It was nice and cozy, really used and worn, but was very cheap, and we had a place to sleep.
So now what? We went walking downtown and visited the different casino's. We had a fun time looking at cars, and picked up a few trinkets for the kids. We were tired from the long day, and headed off to bed early.
We awoke early Sunday morning, got dressed and made a quick trip to the track. The traffic has been better each year, and this year was no exception. That team at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is really making this a great spot for racing!
Since we had just received the tickets a few days prior, we had no idea what they would like. It turned out they were nicely set in turn 4 just below the new Earnhardt Terrace area. The seats filled up fast, and the race was off. It was hot and sunny, and it affected the handling of the cars. From my vantage, I could see many of the cars were loose. Mike Waltrip got real loose, and his car ended up in the wall, and came to a halt only a few feet from our location. As always, you can see so much more happening on the track, but you still miss the updates on why some cars have left the race, or are doing poorly. Matt Kenseth won for the second year in a row.
